About

I’m Choly. I was born in South Africa but now I live in the United Kingdom. I write and produce songs for myself and my friends.

I’ve been in a bunch of bands, my first being Nevermore way back in the mid-90s. We had some radio play, got a song published by Polygram Records and played around the country. We were young and it was great!

Through the 2000s it was Waverley, Silkworm, Starplayer and eventually Small Town Heroes which I fronted as vocalist. We released the album Into the Light in 2010 and our single Can You Hear Me enjoyed some airplay on local radio. Shortly after its release, I immigrated to the United Kingdom.

I continued to write and demo from my home studio. My first ‘solo’ album was Circle Spirit Geometry, an eclectic mix of rock, pop, punk and folk. It was my first real attempt at self-producing. I learnt a lot and I’m really proud of it. Warts and all.

Since then I’ve released a bunch of singles, with another due in Jan 2022.

I draw my inspiration from a lots of different bands and songwriters – from the classic rock of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Guns ‘n Roses, to the 90’s grunge of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. I’ve always loved the EDM soundscapes of Depeche Mode, Massive Attack and Leftfield, so my sound is a mix of all of these making it somewhat hard to classify, other than to say it’s overwhelmingly positive and hopeful.
